Fuchs Roofing FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I share my insurance estimate with Fuchs Roofing?
Reasons Why Fuchs Roofing Requests the Insurance Estimate:
- Consistency in Estimates: Fuchs Roofing and insurance providers use the same software to create estimates, which requires inputting quantities for each line item. The software calculates costs based on average labor rates and current material prices. However, insurance providers sometimes omit necessary line items from their estimates, leading to discrepancies where Fuchs Roofing’s retail price may be higher. Once the project is authorized, Fuchs Roofing will file a supplement to add any missing line items to the insurance estimate, ensuring that these costs are covered.
- Potential for Additional Funds: The initial insurance check usually does not cover the total amount owed to the insured by insurance. Insurance claims often involve depreciation, and if depreciation is recoverable, additional funds can be released after the work is completed. Fuchs Roofing will send a certificate of completion to the insurance company to request the release of any withheld depreciation funds.
- Understanding Approved Work: To accurately complete the work, Fuchs Roofing needs to know what has been approved by the insurance company. Insurance only pays for damaged items, so every component—such as roofing, flashing, downspouts, gutters, fascia, and siding—must all be individually approved if it has damage. Fuchs Roofing’s experts analyze the insurance estimate to determine exactly what work has been approved.
- Financial Arrangements for Retail Projects: For retail projects, a 50% down payment is required, with the remaining balance due within 10 days of project completion. It can be challenging to manage large payments when insurance has not yet paid, making it beneficial to have Fuchs Roofing work directly with insurance. In doing so, Fuchs Roofing will wait for insurance to release money to their insured before final payment to Fuchs Roofing is required.
What is an insurance supplement?
An insurance supplement for a hail or wind claim is an additional claim under the same claim number that is made to cover extra costs or damages not included in the initial claim. Here’s how it usually works:
- Initial Claim: When you report hail or wind damage to your insurance company, they send an adjuster to evaluate the damage. The adjuster then estimates the cost to repair or replace the damaged property and provides a settlement offer based on their assessment.
- Additional Damages: After the initial assessment, Fuchs Roofing might discover more damage or find that repair costs are higher than originally estimated. This could be due to missing items, increases in material prices, unforeseen issues, more extensive damage than initially visible, or changes in repair costs.
- Filing a Supplement: To address these additional costs, Fuchs Roofing can file a supplement to the original claim. This involves providing detailed documentation of the additional damages or increased costs. The insurance company reviews this information and if approved, issue additional funds to cover these extra expenses.
In summary, a supplement ensures that all necessary repairs and costs beyond the initial claim’s scope are covered, helping you get fully reimbursed for the damages. Typically, supplements are covered in full by insurance, so they do not increase your out-of-pocket expenses for the project.
Why is my final invoice higher than the initial proposal?
There are a few primary reasons why your final invoice might be higher than the initial proposal:
- Insurance Supplement Costs: Sometimes, after starting the project, we encounter additional expenses that weren’t included in the initial insurance estimate. These costs are necessary to ensure the work is completed to the highest quality.
- Unforeseen Costs: Unexpected issues may arise during the project that require extra work or materials, which can lead to higher costs.
- Decking Issues: Proper installation of shingles, siding, and other materials requires a solid, nailable surface. If we find that the decking is rotten or delaminated, it must be replaced to ensure the materials are properly supported and secured.
- Hand-Loading Material: If the material supplier can’t deliver directly to the roof, we need to hand-load the materials up ladders. This process requires additional labor hours, which will be reflected in the invoice.
- Access Issues: If there’s no easy access to our dumpster or trailer, we may need to collect and carry debris manually, increasing labor costs. This usually occurs when the structure lacks nearby parking or has steep pitches.
- Flashing Replacement: We might discover that flashing needs to be replaced to prevent leaks, which could incur additional costs if it wasn’t included in the original proposal.
- Multiple Layers: If we find additional layers of shingles or siding that need to be removed, this requires extra labor and disposal fees.
We always aim to keep the project within budget, but these adjustments are essential to ensure the work is completed correctly and meets our high standards.

Everyone was kind, courteous, and professional. The entire process was quick and easy thanks to the Fuchs Roofing team.

This is the second roof I have used Fuchs Roofing for. Great job, great service, easy to work with. Jim C

Fuchs was great to work with and very helpful from the start. They came out and assessed the situation and worked with us on getting some options on fixing a spot on our roof. I would recommend them to others.

Fuchs Roofing gave me a fair estimate and showed up on time. Weather delayed some of the repair on my roof, but they had the materials needed after the weather cleared up. I would recommend them as they were able to get the exact same shingle color for my roof repair.

The guys were very professional and polite. They did a very good job and were done in one day as they promised. Would recommend them.
